WindBorne Systems is supercharging weather forecasts with a unique proprietary data source: a global constellation of next-generation smart weather balloons targeting the most critical atmospheric data. We design, manufacture, and operate our own balloons, using the data they collect to generate otherwise unattainable weather intelligence.
Our mission is to eliminate weather uncertainty, and in the process help humanity adapt to climate change, be that predicting hurricanes or speeding the adoption of renewables. We are building a future in which the planet is instrumented by thousands of our microballoons, eliminating gaps in our understanding of the planet and giving people and businesses the information they need to make critical decisions. The founding team of Stanford engineers was named Forbes 2019 30 under 30 and is backed by top-tier investors, including Khosla Ventures and Footwork VC.

WindBorne has a ton of launch sites. Launching a ton of balloons. Your job is to make that process simpler and more efficient.
- Work alongside mechanical and software engineers to develop balloon launch processes
- Develop onboarding materials for new launch operators
- Travel into the field to test and refine your work
- Own office balloon launching and new employee training
Who You are
- BS, or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics or relevant disciplines
- Technical from 1st Principles. You can understand problems with balloon physics or hard engineering and logic problems from a place of intuition, not memorization.
- Travel ~15% of the time, to setup new launch sites, develop and nurture strong stakeholder relationships and understand their needs
- Have worked with hardware systems before
- Capable of debugging hardware problems on your own without external input
- Detailed and process oriented person
- Comfortable with using different software tools such as Figma, Vercel, Notion, etc
- Can collaborate across operations, mechanical and software engineering teams to own the development of cross-platform technology
- High intensity: are you able to deal with ambiguity and hard deadlines?
Not required, but nice to have:
- Do you know how to use CAD
- Previously collaborated closely with both growth/sales teams and operations teams
- Drive stick
- 401(k)
- Dental insurance
- Health insurance
- Vision insurance
- Unlimited PTO
- Stock Option Plan
